Aside from its selection of food, what makes a grocery store attractive? Inviting? A place you’d like to be? These are the questions Mary Reeck, an interior designer at Engrav’s Decorating in Winona, considers when working with Bluff Country Co-op to design the new store.

Reeck, who has been at Engrav’s for 31 years and who helped the Co-op choose colors for the current store, says, “When you walk into our store, we ask questions about your project, your lifestyle, your opinions on what you like or don’t like, what you envision.” She then creates a visual of everything that her customers tell her and shows them what it would look like and what changes could be made to improve it.

According to Reeck, one of things that makes a grocery store unique is “the focus on how to use color.” Color themes take into consideration the direction of light exposure, ceiling height, and furniture, and can evoke different emotions. For example, red conveys a sense of welcoming, which is important to a place like the Co-op, which has such a strong commitment to community.

Beginning the process of choosing the interior design is an exciting step toward making our dream a reality! Stay tuned for updates on our timeline.
