Planting in Winona’s newest green space, the rain garden in the parking lot behind Bluff Country Co-op, has wrapped up for the season. A total of 30 plants were donated and volunteers gave 18.5 hours of their time to the garden. Some of the plants that can be found in the garden include: a River Birch from Winona Nursery, Hairy Mountain Mint, Blue Flag Iris, Wild Senna, Wild Bergamot, Rose Milkweed, Cup Plant, and New England Aster. Each of the plants is labeled so visitors can easily identify them.

“The garden is for everyone. It belongs to the community,” said BCC General Manager Dawn Schreiber. With that in mind, the Co-op held a series of “Garden Talks” on the first Fridays of September, October, and November to give community members a chance to learn about the benefits of rain gardens and help with the planting.
